Art in the Middle School is designed to complement and add to our
unique academic atmosphere. We provide a strong basis for creative
thinking and problem solving. The Middle School art program captures
the intrinsic need of each grade level and its individual students.
For example, fifth graders receive an overview of the art room
procedures before becoming involved with drawing, painting, and
perspective drawing. Sixth graders explore realism, 7th graders
concentrate on the principles of design, and 8th graders work to
relate art to their environment. The 8th graders also explore computer
graphics. Most projects are process/project oriented and are completed
in two and three- dimensional form.
5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade student participate in art class for 10
weeks each year.
This year, all of the 8th graders will take art during the first
10-week block of the school year. The 7th graders will take art
during the second block, the 5th graders will be during the third, and
the 6th, during the last block.
The
art room is generally open after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays for
individual projects or extra help.
This month, sixth grade
student art work is featured.
