Math 7—Collecting Data Assignment

 

Directions:  Each student will complete the following tasks over the next several days.  The due date for each section will be announced in class and be placed on the homework hotline.  Please fill in the following:

1.      Survey Topic:  Please choose a topic of interest to you and/or your classmates that you will be able to design a survey around.

 

Example:   What do people like best about ice cream?

2.      Survey Questions: Please write five (5) questions to ask people about your survey topic.  You should give answer choices to the questions, as well.

5.                  Convert Results to Percents:  Change each tally into a part of 100.

Example:  7 out of 25 people who have chocolate as a favorite ice cream would be (since 8X4 is 32 and

25X4 is 100) 32 out of 100 or 32%.

         6.      Display the Results: You will be displaying the results in two ways. 

                     a) Display the percent results in a bar, line or picture graph ( pick only                              one)

                 AND

                     b) Display the results in a Pie Graph

7.      Conclusion: Summarize the results of the survey in a short paragraph or essay ( ˝ page or less)       

 

You may simply restate the results or ( even better ) make observations about the results.  Did they turn out how you thought they would?  Was something surprising about them?  What do the results tell us about the survey topic? Or any other relevant observations you notice.  J
