Boys Basketball Moves On
Jason Evans
The Boys Basketball Team won against their first Sectional Opponent, Chenango Forks, but lost against Seton Catholic.
Ending a seven year playoff drought, Trumansburg came up with a pivotal win against Chenango Forks, with Coach Reed describing the event as "humongous". Mark Burchell would score 19 points, with Alec Bartishevich scoring 16 and Letty McFall scoring 11. Unfortunately they could not keep steam going against a hard Seton Catholic team (17-2), loosing 72-30, with Dylan Hardesty leading the scoring at 7 points. Trumansburg ends the season with 7 wins and 11 losses as the 9th Sectional Seed.

Varsity Wrestling Wraps Up The Season
Over the week end Abel Stanton of the Varsity Wrestling team competed in the Section IV championships at Broome County Arena.
Abel went 2 and 2 for the event. A hard fought loss in overtime in the third round of wrestle backs kept Abel from placing.
The wrestling season is now over and the team and I would like to thank all of our supporters.
Thank You,
Coach Moore

Lady Raiders Wrap Up The Season
The Lady Raiders finished out their
regular season play at 7-9 in their
league 2-4 in Div. & 7-10 overall. The
ladies will pick up an extra game before
going into sectional play at Odessa
Montour on Feb.17th at
7:00pm. Odessa is a very good outside
shooting team this year with some very
quick guards. It will be a challenge but
I’m sure our defense will step up to
meet that challenge. Offensively for the
Raiders we have plenty of guns (Sydney
H., Ali G., Kendra S., Kenjia S.) for
shooting mid range jumpers while
Samantha P. heats up things at the 3-
point
line.
Leading the pack working hard inside the paint & continuously getting stronger is Sarah M., Madeline W., Brandi sue B., & Alex L.; even on the defensive side these four are fun to watch as they fight for every rebound while getting ready to throw that quick outlet pass.
Overall it has been an exciting, emotional, and sometimes tearful – but never boring season. Over the summer the ladies plan on attending a few camps to brush up on a few skills & do some community service work as a team.
Well what more can I say… it’s been fun, and remember “ winning isn’t everything but making the effort to win is.”- Vince L.

Boys and Girls Take First Place, Sets the Bar for Competitiveness and Sportsmanship in Trumansburg
The boys’ track team competed in the Hurley/Quinney Invitational on Friday at Cornell. At the end of the night the Blue Raiders went home with the first place trophy. It was the second year in a row the boys have won the invitational. They managed to garner 85 points outdistancing the second place team from Tully by 30 points. Noteworthy performances were turned in by Tucker Randle who placed second in the high jump, Lucas Young who also placed second in the 300m, and Andrew Peterson who placed 3rd in the 55m dash. The highlight of the evening came in the last event of the meet… the Sprint Medley Relay. The team of Charlie Woodward, Andrew Peterson, Tucker Randle, and Cody Scott took second place and set a new school record in the event. The new mark stands at 3:46.67… a full three seconds faster!!! Cody Scott ran a monster anchor leg (800m in 1:59.9) to ensure their second place finish and a school record.
The girl’s track team also competed at the Hurley Quinney Invite on Friday at Cornell. At the end of the night the Blue Raider Ladies also went home with a first place trophy and just like the boys this was their 2nd year in a row winning the invitational. Noteworthy performances on the girls side included the “field” side for the girls as Shauna Murray (Long & Triple), Kayla Prochnow (High Jump) and Kourtney Miller (Pole Vault) continue to score in the top 6 and impress with their performances. The Highlight of the meet was a school record setting performance turned in the Distance Medley Relay team. Brianna VanSoest, Makenzi Swartwood, Katlin Shippy and Abby Prisloe shaved almost 20 seconds off the former record! Congratulations!!!

Girls Basketball Has Another Well Fought for Win
Friday night the girls varsity basketball team came home with a win from Whitney Point 51-49. A great game was played by all as the girls continue to try to get into the post season. Sarah Mount had a double-double scoring 22pts. & 12 rebounds. Ali Grunder tied the game at 49 by hitting all of her free throws, she had 11pts. total. Later Sarah Mount followed up with the game winning shot at the line with 0:0 left on the clock.
Everyone contributed whether it was on offense or defense. Samantha Park finished with a total of 9pts., while Sydney Hayward had 8pts. Friday the girls travel to S. Cayuga and hopefully the fans will come along and cheer us on the way they did in at Whitney point.
See ya there,

In the 112ib weight class Abel Stanton defeated Chris Hover from Candor by fall.
In the 140ib weight class Spencer Sappington lost a tough match by a fall to Freedon Boda of Candor, and then came back to defeat Ryan Roberts from TAE by fall. This was an important rematch as Roberts defeated Sappington weeks ago.

Third Place... the New First Place.
Boys Varsity Track captures third at the Finger Lakes invite Saturday, January 15th.
The boys competed in the Finger Lakes Invitational this past Saturday at Cornell. Thirty schools from Section 4 and Section 3 attended the event. The boys captured the 3rd place trophy with a solid effort by many. Leading the way was Lucas Young who placed 3rd in the 55m dash. He also placed 1st in the 300m on his way to setting a new school record in the event. The new mark stands at 35.8 seconds… a full second off the old record!!! Tucker Randle also posted a 1st place in the high jump with an effort of 5’ 10”.
Other top six finishers for the Blue Raiders included Cody Scott who took 3rd in the 600m with a personal record of 1:25.98. He is inching closer to the school record in that event. Andrew Peterson’s jump of 20’ 3” in the long jump was good for 3rd place and a personal best. He also placed 5th in the 55m dash. Rounding out top six place finishers was the 1600 relay that took 4th place. Members were Charlie Woodward, Andrew Peterson, Cody Scott, and Tucker Randle. The 800 relay missed out on 6th place by .77 seconds. The team of Whit Ives TJ Eighmey, Cody Babcock, and David Puglisi ran extremely well… great effort!
What makes the team’s 3rd place finish impressive is that they ran against schools of all sizes and faired quite well. The ninth and tenth graders will be in action this upcoming Saturday morning at Cortland. The meet begins at 9:00.

No Easy Baskets
Trumansburg Boys Basketball comes back from big deficit in the first half
Jason Evans
Trumansburg somehow held in the game. In the first three minutes Marathon would get three easy breakaways from steals. The Varsity Basketball team looked nervous out there.
But at some point they got their composure back. Maybe it was when Mark Burchell (15pts for the night) tied the game, went for four straight points with a layup and then two free throws shortly after, putting Trumansburg up 22 to 18. Dylan Hardesty certainly had a good game- he would put up a three pointer five minutes left in the game to put Trumansburg up 10, to 42-32. Riley Edmonds had numerous offensive rebounds, most of them in the midst of heavy traffic. The rest of the game seemed like free throws after that, and the final score- 58 to 54- doesn't reflect how close of a game this was.
Now 4-7, Trumansburg will visit Groton today, Tuesday, January 18th. Games start at 5:30!

The Southern Tier Invitational Track & Field meet was held Saturday in Barton Hall on the Cornell campus. The meet was attended by schools of all sizes from all over New York State. Spectators were treated to many high caliber performances, some of these turned in by the Trumansburg Blue Raiders!! Tucker Randle had the highest place finish for the day as he earned a 2nd place medal for his high jump of 5’ 11”. Lucas Young used his quickness in the 55m dash to gain a spot in the finals and there managed a 4th place finish. What makes this impressive is that 79 boys competed in the event!! Tburg’s third and final place finisher was Cody Scott who ran the 600m run. His time of 1:26.57 earned him a 5th place ribbon and a personal best time in the event.
The boys return to Cornell on Saturday (1/15/11) for the Finger Lakes Invitational, a meet attended by Section IV track programs. Congratulations to all on their fine efforts during the meet and our thanks for your work ethic during the week to prepare for competition!
The Highest placing Raider
of the day was Kayla Prochnow who placed 6th
in a Loaded High Jump field. Her jump of 5’ 2”
ties the indoor school record!
All the Lady Raiders had a fantastic meet with many personal or season bests. The Chenango Valley Coach even came up to Coach DeSantis and said “My team just told me that the Trumansburg athletes are just really nice”! Way to go Raiders!

Boys end the winning drought, JV Girls Win Consolation Game
Article by Jason Evans

December is often most looked forward to by its long break and holidays. Finally, a time for all of us students to relax!
But the Trumansburg Basketball teams were hard at work in numerous holiday tournaments throughout the Finger Lakes. The Boys travelled to Lansing for the Fred Caliel Boys Holiday Basketball Tournament, while the Girls stayed at home to host their own.
The biggest news was the Trumansburg Boys Varsity Basketball team ending their loosing streak- a big one- AND taking the tournament by storm, coming out as the winners by defeating Lansing 51-41, and Whitney Point 38-33.

The Trumansburg Girls Basketball teams did well too- the JV team lost their first match, but won the consolation game against Dryden. The JV tournament champions would be Groton, winning 40-15 against Dryden.

Matt Taves, Trumansburg Athletic Director, had this to say about the Girls Varsity Tourney:
"The Tburg Holiday Classic
Varsity Girls Basketball Champions for the
2010-11 season are the Dryden Lions defeating the
Groton Indians 44 - 41
in a tough exciting game. There were over ten lead
changes in the last 5
minutes and the game was fast paced and action
packed.

The Tburg Holiday Classic Consolation winner was
Newark Valley defeating
our Tburg Lady Raiders 56 - 51 in a hard fought
exciting game. The Lady
Raiders received 6 points in the last 10 seconds to
cut the lead to 3
points (51 - 54) but they had to foul Newark Valley
to try
and keep the game alive. The Newark Valley player
calmly sank her
free throws and our Lady Raiders simply ran out of
time.
The Trumansburg Athletic Department would like to
thank Newark Valley,
Dryden and Groton for attending our Holiday Classic
Girls Basketball
Tournament and making it such a successful event. We
would like to
extend a special congratulations to our JV Champion,
the Groton Indians,
and to our Varsity Champions the Dryden Lady Lions.
The Tburg Holiday
Classic witnessed some exciting, close, hard fought
games and we could
not be any prouder of the quality and caliber of the
games but also of
the good sportsmanship exuded by all the players,
coaches, students,
parents, and fans.
The 1st Team Selection of the T-burg Holiday Classic
is:
1 - Angela Halliday (G) #22 - Newark Valley
2 - Shelby Warner (G) #21 - Groton
3 - Sydney Hayward (Fwd) #4 - Tburg
4 - Laura Streeter (Fwd) #15 - Dryden
5 - Brooke Thompson (Fwd) #12 - Dryden"
Trumansburg would like to extend a thanks to all teams and fans that attended the Holiday Tournaments that took place. As with any sport, without support from all fans, parents and players from all regions, this event would not have taken place!

3rd Annual Shop and Play a Success!!

On Saturday night the baseball and volleyball teams hosted the 3rd annual Shop and Play. From 4:00-8:00 parents used this free service for 71 children to enjoy the activities offered in the gym and several classrooms. Face painting, crafts, board games, Wii games, Dance Dance Revolution, the bounce house, basketball and movies “The Polar Express” and “Toy Story 3” helped the 4 hours to pass by quickly. At 6:00 everyone enjoyed pizza and lemonade before returning to full speed fun. It was amazing to see how much fun both the young ones and the high school athletes had throughout the evening.

This is definitely a community service project that has been warmly received by the community and enjoyable for us to offer. Coaches Angela McLennan, Scott Miller, Jason Hodge, Scott Voorhees and Michael Flood are proud of the athletes and thankful to the Sports’ Boosters for sponsoring the evening. We also thank Pat and Jeff for donating the bounce house, Rent-A-Flick for donating the use of “Toy Story 3” and Shur Save for helping provide the pizzas. We also appreciate Betty Jean for being so helpful and the teachers (Mr. Radley and Mrs. Kucerak) whose rooms we used for some of the activities as well as Mrs. Voorhees for helping clean up. Great job by all!

JV Basketball- Fatigue, Defense Take a Toll.
The Blue Raider JV Boys Basketball team lost a close game on Friday night to Moravia by a score of 37 to 44. After a strong defensive first half the Blue Raiders lead 19 to 13 at halftime. The Blue Raiders struggled early in the third quarter but were able to tie the game at 26 going into the 4th. Unfortunately, fatigue and defensive break downs cost the Blue Raiders a shot at their first victory of the season. A Freshman, Santi Martin-Sanchez, lead the blue raiders in scoring with 12 points with 7 points coming from Freshman Mitchell Swartwood and 6 points from Freshman Dylan Mosher. The Blue Raiders do not play again until December 29th in a holiday tournament against Lansing at Lansing High School. The tip is set for 3:00PM.

Ali Grunder is the Ithaca Journals Athlete of the Week
Through her perserverance in basketball, to the support she gives her team to perservere, our own Ali Grunder is the Ithaca Journals Athlete of the week! Congratulations!

The Journals reasons were straightforward- her scoring prowess. In the last two games she has averaged 25 points. Not only is Ali an excellent basketball player, but she is also a talented soccer player, being one of the top scorers on the Varsity soccer team.

Girls Varsity Pulls Away, Despite Turnovers
Now 3-1, Trumansburg looks to play Moravia Friday
Despite having nearly 50 turnovers, the Lady Raiders kept hitting the boards hard. With Sydney Hayward and Ali Grunder putting up a combined 26 points, and Maddie White (who is on the front cover of the Ithaca Journal, I may add) along with Sarah Mount putting up a combined 21 rebounds, the Girls Basketball team powered through a rough game. Southern Cayuga also experienced a rough game as well, with 37 turnovers. Southern Cayuga's coach would go on to describe the turnovers to the Ithaca Journal as "pretty ugly".
Effort would prevail however, with Trumansburg pulling away with a 43-29 win.
![]() Maddie White, below, would have a combined 14 rebounds. |

Congrats to the girls varsity basketball team in defeating Southern Cayuga Tuesday night. Maddie White pulled down 14 rebounds, followed by Sarah Mount with 9. Ali Grunder and Sydney Hayward shared the scoring spotlight. A great game was played by all, despite some feeling under the weather due to colds. The girls are now 4-1, Friday we travel to Moravia to take on the undefeated Blue Devils-it should be a great match up.

Brianna Van Soest’s 5th place finish in the 1500m was after she had taken a hard fall on the third lap of a 7.5 lap race!!
Lucas Young came within .16 of a second of breaking the school record in the 300m… it was his first time running the event!!
Coaches’ note
It was great to see the Raiders in action again. The support they give each other throughout the night is a joy to watch. They truly do enjoy each other’s company!!

Cross Country Re-Cap
The Trumansburg Boys Varsity Cross Country team wrapped up a successful campaign recently, capping an undefeated dual meet season with a Divisional Championship. The team then recorded a second-place finish at the I.A.C. Championships and were runners-up Sectionals as well. Cody Scott, Tyler Sutherland and Nate Stevenson all earned Divisional All-Star status, while Ty Sutherland was named a first team I.A.C. All Star. Nate Stevenson earned a trip to the State Meet by virtue of his fantastic seventh-place finish at Sectionals. The race was held at Lakeside Park in Pawling, NY and featured a challenging, physically demanding course, including a steep, 200 meter hill climb that had some runners scrambling on all fours. Coach Clifford was very pleased with Nate’s performance, commenting that, “Nate is a physically strong kid, and the difficult course suited him. He ran an aggressive, yet controlled race, and passed several people on the steepest part of the course. It was an impressive performance for his first trip to States”.
Congratulations on your successful season, TBXC!
-Coach Clifford
Brianna VanSoest capped off a stellar cross country season with a great run at the NYSPHSAA cross country championships at Pawling’s Lakeside Park. Brianna improved over 20 spots from her freshman year when she competed at the state championships. She ran a tactical race and survived the “biggest hill ever” with ease. She was an Division, IAC and Sectional All Star for blue raiders this season.

Boys Varsity Soccer Wins Section 4!
Trumansburg takes down state ranked #2 Oneonta- and best of all, have another week of soccer.
The sport of Soccer has brought people together from various regions of the world- look at the effect that the World Cup has on whole nations. For a short period of time, people shed their regrets and troubles to unite for the pride of the game. As the musical artist K'naan says: "take the field now, unify us, make us feel proud".
But Saturday, rather it brought a team, once
again, together. Oneonta is a fit and very
skilled team- ranked second in the state.
Trumansburg would once again be the underdog.
Fast paced was the name of Saturdays game. Possession was held equally for both teams, with Trumansburg utilizing a gap in the center while Oneonta played forward launch balls more. The Trumansburg defense, held by Captains Seth Lutter, Phil Brown and Junior Alec Bartishevich, dominated the sides of the field as well as minimizing shots. Crucial to movement of the ball outside of the defensive area and transition was Andrew Yaw, who contributed to dominating the center of the field.
The first goal would come from Ben Glasner, from
a small pass from Jannik Heye's near the 18. Ben
would drill the ball right into the corner of
the goal post, sending it into the back of the
net. Oneonta would score their first goal to match
Trumansburg with less than a minute in the first
half.
In the second half, Trumansburg started out with the ball but worrying lost possession quickly. However, the determination of the mid-field gained possession back quickly, and began what they left off in the first half. Nearly 30 minutes into the second half, Abreham Kittel would score, putting T-burg up 2-1. Finally, with less than 5 minutes left in second half, Abreham put in the final, insurance goal torward the 3-1 win.
Trumansburg will go on to play #1 ranked Skaneateles on Saturday, November 13th at 1:30, at the same location in Oneonta (click on link for Yahoo Maps)

Boys Soccer trumps Watkins in a 1-0 win
Only three minutes were left on the clock in the second half when the first goal would be scored. It would be Jannik Heye on a short spin move that would find the back of the net for Trumansburg, one of thirteen shots taken by the Trumansburg Blue Raiders.
![]() Our own Abreham Kittel takes a shot from the 18 |
Both teams played an exceptionally good game, with generally equal possession by both teams. The difference, according to Watkins Coach Henry Ferguson, was finishing. "We did everything well except put the ball in the net."
The Raiders however put up a hard act in the defense, with Phil Brown, Alec Bartishevich and Seth Lutter shutting down all of Watkins attacks early. The focus was on Watkins player Ian Andersen, who had scored a goal in the IAC Championship game previously against Trumansburg. Shutting down passing outlets, minimizing shots and keeping pressure up top on Watkins defense were the cards Trumansburg played.
Another Trumansburg focus, using
the width, also contributed towards stretching
Watkins defense. Numerous runs by Jannik Heye and
excellent positioning by Alec Bartishevich and Danny
Stewart opened up the center of the field, clearing
some of Watkins congestion. Numerous times
overlapping runs and one-twos were given near the
sidelines to move the ball up the field, working
efficiently.
The Trumansburg Boys Soccer Team
(2nd seed) will go on to play Oneonta (1st seed)
Saturday, November 6th at the Oneonta Hall of Fame.
Specific times have not been given yet. A BIG thanks
must go out to our fans, who shall always be held

“ The strength of our top 4 girls is AWSOME. I can’t remember the last time we had FOUR All Stars at this meet. The only other team to do that was Watkins Glen. It was a close meet between eventual winner Watkins Glen, 2nd place Newark Valley and 3rd place Trumansburg. Rounding out the scoring 7 were Zoloo Brown, Kendra Soboleski and Rachel Pausch.” The Blue Raiders see their next action on Thursday November 4th at the famed Chenango Valley State Park course for the Sectional Championship meet.

Great Start, Sweet Finish
Trumansburg's Girls Soccer Team Defeats the Wolves 4-0
The
easiest of games to play often start with a quick
breakaway, a quick goal, a
good
start or simply an easy opponent. But despite a
quick goal scored within the first minute, the game
was closer than numbers may suggest. Two great
teams, Trumansburg (8th seed) and Waverly (9th seed)
played a great game last night that has the Girls
Varsity Soccer Team advancing to play 1st- ranked
Oneonta this Saturday at 3:30 pm.
Karissa Zaharis scored 49 seconds into the game off of a cross by Senior Shelby Hallman, putting the Raiders up 1-0. But Waverly put the pressure on the Trumansburg defense during the first half, who contained and didn't allow any shots.
Trumansburg would be on the attack once again in the second half, scoring within the first 10 minutes as Senior Livia Farina-Geiger scored off of an offensive rebound in the 47th minute. Senior Ashley Reynolds and Junior Ali Grunder would score late in the game.

JV Girls Soccer Winds Down the Season with a 1-0 Win Over South Seneca
The JV Girls soccer team finished there season with a thrilling 1-0 win over South Seneca Thursday evening. The game was incredibly close throughout and each team played with a lot of determination.
The first half saw opportunities for both teams with possession about even between the two. With about five minutes left in the first half Trumansburg was awarded a direct kick just out side of the penalty box. Midfielder Abby VanSoest took the kick and perfectly placed the shot past the wall and into the side netting giving Trumansburg a one goal lead it wouldn’t relinquish. It was not easy for the Raiders to hold the lead because South Seneca came out in the second half extremely aggressive. South Seneca dominated on shots taken but keeper Vicki Wright continually made saves to keep Trumansburg ahead.
Hannah Murphy led the defense that bent but did break to preserve the one goal lead. The girls won the game with a total team effort to finish the season with a 4-3-1 record.

Boys Varsity Soccer Defeats Longtime Rivals Lansing 2-0
An amazing goal to defeat, and a goal to secure the
win sets Trumansburg up for a match against Watkins Glen
in Ithaca on Saturday, October 23rd
Not even the beautiful weather could have contrasted the rivalry that existed between Lansing and Trumansburg. The Lansing Bobcats (13-2) and Trumansburg Blue Raiders (14-1) had both had stellar seasons, forfeiting one loss only to each other during the regular season.
The game began with a rough start, with a loss of possession by Trumansburg early after the kick-off. Energy was high however and Lansing was kept on their toes by an early shot by Jannik Heyes, with good possession by the Blue Raiders. Lansing had few scoring chances in the first but were able to lock the ball in Trumansburg's half numerous times, with good possession of the ball and control down the sidelines.
Lansing came out with numerous scoring chances in the second half, with some dangerous shots coming from center field and aggressive play in the mid-field. Some amazing saves by Keeper Zach Taber, who was probably most busiest of the season during this game, kept the score deadlocked at 0. Trumansburg would not give up however, and in the last 10 minutes Trumansburg played in its prefecture- With approximately 3 minutes left in the last half, Jannik Heyes scored off a short cross played by Justin Bozeman.
Two minutes later Lansing keeper Benji Parks would come out of the keepers box to stop a rush attack by Trumansburg, kicking the ball out to mid-center field where Justin Bozeman two-touched the ball into Lansing's net, more than 30 yards out.
Both teams played a great game, with Trumansburg finding
the ability to finish the ball by putting it in the net.
Maybe most obvious to another Trumansburg Player however
was the fact that we played as a team and supported each
other, not getting frustrated with each other and
playing the game we all love.
A
big thanks must be sent out to all the fans that came
out to support us. With what has been described as the
biggest show of support for a Trumansburg sport in three
years, words cannot describe our appreciation.

JV Girls Soccer Begin Wrapping Up an Excellent Season with a Win Against Whitney Point
The JV Girls finished their last of three games against Whitney Point with a 6-0 win. The whole team contributed to this strong win and it was some of the best passing Trumansburg has shown all season. Trumansburg scored two early goals in the half but Whitney Point would not give up and pressured the defense but keeper Caitlyn Reynolds made the important saves when Whitney Point took their shots.
The girls were able to keep possession of the ball throughout the second half and the defense limited the Whitney Point to only 2 shots in the second half. Goals were scored by Caitlyn Reynolds, Vicki Wright, Brittany Hallock, Emily Stranger, and two by Abby VanSoest. Assists were added by Hallock, Sarah Murphy, and Marina Howarth. The JV Girls look to finish their season against South Seneca Thursday 10/21 at home.

Girls JV Soccer takes on END
The
Trumansburg JV Girls Soccer team lost 3-2 to Elmira Notre Dame. The
girls went down early but off of a deflected shot. That wake up call
sent the girls on the offensive led by strong performance by players off
the bench. Soon after the girls evened the score at 1-1 with a goal
from Blythe Gurche. Unfortunately the girls fell behind yet again after
Elmira scored off a free kick that hit the upper 90 just before the
half. Trumansburg came out energized after half and was hungry to score
but fell further behind after another amazing free kick goal from END
just outside the penalty box. Sophie Melvin, Mollie Seamon, and Tori
Coon led an aggressive defense that helped keep us in the game and
numerous chances were created from great midfield play by Emily Stranger
and Sarah Murphy. Vicki Wright moved the ball extremely well from
forward with great give and go play. Trumansburg dominated possession
for the majority of the second half and after a blistering shot by Abby
VanSoest Sarah Murphy was able to finish the rebound putting the score
to 3-2. Trumansburg created many scoring opportunities and corner kicks
and was attacking up to the final whistle but in the end finished with
the loss 3-2.

The Varsity Boys Cross Country team won the Tully

The Varsity Girls Cross Country Team moved to 9-1 for the regular season as they pick up two wins on Tuesday night. Only able to field 5 competitors due to illness and injury the Lady Raiders ran a tough race against Southern Springs to win 23-32 (Whitney Point was incomplete). The one-two-three punch of Brianna VanSoest, Sarah Danner and Maya Puleo was just too much to overcome as they took the top three spots. Coupled with strong races by Rachel Pausch and Kendra Soboleski in the 4-5 spot the raiders came out triumphant on a hard hilly course at Whitney Point. Girls Varsity Soccer Continues to Set the Bar, beating longtime stalwart Dryden
The girls traveled to Dryden to play them under the lights. The teams were very evenly matched, however Dryden was finally able to find the back of the net with 4 and a half minutes remaining in the first half. Going into half time, we discussed ways to break down the Dryden defensive unit and to the credit of great ball movement, quality first touches and speed we found the net 16 seconds into the second half to tie the score. Ali Grunder sent a beautiful ball through the 18, splitting Dryden's center defenders and Jordan Trudell one timed a shot into the far right corner of the net.

An identical goal was scored 3 minutes later by Jordan from Ali. This put all the momentum on our side for the remainder of the half. Even when Dryden tied things up with 13 minutes left in the second we did not stop testing the goal keeper.
We had 17 shots, most coming in the second half, taken by Megan Austen, Shelby Hallman, Jordan Trudell, Ali Grunder, Karissa Zaharis, Alex Lockwood and Livia Farina-Geiger.Many were on target, hitting the crossbar or going just wide. Finally Jordan completed her hat trick when she finished a cross from Shelby Hallman with 10 minutes remaining in the game. Our defense played an outstanding game. Shannon Weber made 10 saves. All 19 Lady Raiders contributed to our win over Dryden. This is the first time that we have beaten this team in three years.
JV Girls Soccer Vs. Notre Dame
The JV Girls Soccer team lost 1-0 to Elmira Notre Dame Thursday evening. The girls struggled to maintain possession for the first 20 minutes of the first half but after that the game started to open up and both teams threatened with some scoring chances. In the second half Trumansburg began to dominate possession. The Trumansburg defense led by Janelle Stewart and Hannah Murphy helped contain END for most of the half but a quick counterattack led to a goal for END with 20 minutes left in the game. Trumansburg pushed hard to even the score with dangerous crosses served in front of the goal by the forwards and midfielders. In the end Trumansburg tallied 13 shots but fell short 1-0. The girls look to bounce back against at Whitney Point next Thursday.

Girls Varsity Soccer Continues its Stride
The Varsity Soccer Team played Whitney Point at home. The final score was 3-1. Ashley Reynolds assisted Ali Grunder for the first goal in the opening 30 seconds of the game. The second goal came twenty minutes later from a beautiful cross from defender Makenzi Swartwood to finisher Jordan Trudell. The game was well played, but the girls really started to have great combination play and ball movement following Whitney Points goal off a corner that happened with twenty minutes left in the second half, making the score 2-1. Karissa Zaharis would have the final goal for Tburg with an assist from Jordan Trudell.

The Lady Raiders traveled to Lansing on Monday to play the Bobcats under
the lights. We came out strong and had a great early opportunity to
test the keeper. Ali Grunder found herself in a breakaway situation 11
minutes into the game, and finished the first goal, putting Lansing
behind in IAC play for the first time in several years. Lansing
answered this goal ten minutes later. The score was tied heading into
half time. Lansing came out looking stronger in the second half and
finished an early goal. Their final goal came with 13:36 left to play.
Tburg defenders played a strong game. Shannon Weber had 12 saves. Livia
Farina-Geiger, Ashley Reynolds and Abby Prisloe played with greater
pressure than they have seen so far this year and each had a strong game
in the center mid. Megan Austen, Shelby Hallman, and Esperanza
Shenstone worked hard in the outside mid and were crucial part of our
defense and transition play. Ali Grunder and Jordan Trudell challenged
Lansing’s defense with their speed up top.
The girls’ next game is Wednesday at Southern Cayuga.

Thursday, June 3:
Amazing Night! Last night was state qualifiers in Vestal. I would like to explain a little about this meet. There are two divisions that exist in Section IV. Division 2 in which we fall have all schools with 599 students or less, a total of 52 teams and division one has the largest schools in the section, 8 total. An athlete has to win their division or one extra person from either division can meet a standard to go to the state meet. It is an honor to have one person or relay team make it, we had the following
_______________________________________________________________________________
Thursday, June 3:
The girls varsity track and field 4x400 relay team ran another school record and QUALIFIED FOR THE STATE MEET on Thursday night at Vestal. Hilary Swartwood anchored the relay to a BLAZING time of 4:04.63 to qualify for the state meet which will be held at Vestal on Friday and Saturday May 11th and 12th. Joining Hilary are a trio of 10th graders: Shauna Murray, Ali Grunder and Makenzi Swartwood. The school record at the beginning of the season stood at 4:11 so to run 4:04 is a HUGE improvement.
Hilary also lowered her own 1500 record to 4:46.65. Ariel Regnier tied two school records in a Fantastic effort in the pentathlon. Her point total of 2389 ties the current record as does her 100Hurdle time of 16.2. Shauna Murray jumped very well in the long and triple to take 9th and 10th respectively. Kayla Prochnow cleared 5 feet for the 2nd week in a row in the high jump to place 6th. Kourtney Miller tied her personal best in the pole Vault with 8 feet. Brianna VanSoest’s just missed a top 6 place in the 800 and Maddie White just missed 30 feet in the shot to place 12th. Congratulations to all the athletes who qualified for, and participated in the State Qualifier meet.

Week of May 24, 2010
Thursday, May 27:
Tuesday, May 25:
Friday, May 21
All year long the girls varsity track team would finish each meet trying to run as many 4x400 relays as possible; everyone on the team ran on the 4x4 at some point. Sometimes they would run 6 or 7 teams of 4x4 relays to finish a league meet. It was something of a curiosity to other teams as the Raiders lined up almost everyone on the team of 50+ for the relay event. The 4x4 is the last event and a meet usually "all comes down to the 4x4 relay" - that is what Jack Reed (former Tburg Coaching legend) used to say. Never were those words so true, as on Friday night under the lights at Dryden. The IAC Overall Championship was on the line. Newark Valley lead by 2.5 points. It really did "all come down to the 4x4! "
The boys track team did a great job this past Thursday and Friday to win the IAC Championship. The boys really stepped up to earn their first IAC Championship in nine years. There were so many great performances by everyone that participated. Some of the standout performances were the following. Brennan Edmonds won the 400 meter run with a time of 50.6 and then placed 3rd with a long jump of 21 feet 5 inches on day one. Then on day two Brennan continued to show he is one of the better athletes in the Section. He ran the 400 hurdles with one of the fastest reported times in the section (55.67) and he won triple jump with a 43 feet 10 inches which is also the small school leading jump.
Tucker Randle won the high jump with a jump of 6’4”. The 400 relay team won with a time of 44.69. This team included Andrew Peterson, Tucker Randle, Greg Addicott.
There were so many other gentlemen that placed second through sixth to help secure the win over Dryden by twenty-three points. They really did a terrific job beating all 18 schools in the IAC. We will be competing for the sectional championship this Thursday at Marathon.
Thursday May 20:
Tennis Sectionals - Held at Southern Cayuga
The Trumansburg Tennis team had a GREAT day at Sectionals. The Doubles

and are off to the Tennis State Qualifiers at the Binghamton Tennis
Center next Friday (5/28).
Wednesday May 19:
The Modified Track and Field
team traveled to Elmira Free Academy on Wednesday to compete
against 17 other schools in the Snapple Invitational. This is
one of the most competitive meets that the athletes get to
participate in and both teams made their school proud with many
place winners and tons of personal bests. The Boys Team finished
5th and the Girls Team finished 2nd.
Monday, May 17:
Trumansburg Tennis End of Season Raider Report:

Trumansburg Tennis finished 3rd in the team overall ranking the IAC tournament at SUNY Cortland. Three out of four of our top singles players went to the finals in their respective positions. Alec Bartishevich was the lone title winner, winning the 4th singles title.
Saturday, May 15:
The girls varsity track teams sent a small contingent to the Southern Cayuga Invitational on Saturday. Although the group was small their impact was LARGE.
Olivia Martin had a big Personal Best in the Discus to win that event. Her throw of 89’ 3” was a PR by over 15 feet! Nicole Rossi also had a big day with a jump of 14 feet in the Long Jump to take 6th place. Nicole was also 4th in the 200m with Stephanie Miles right behind her in 5th place. Stefani Porter tied for 3rd in the High Jump with a leap of 4’ 8” and the 4x1 relay team of Lindsey Broadfield, Hannah Murphy, Emily Stranger and Stephanie Miles placed 6th.
Congrats
Coach Glanton and DeSantis
Friday, May 14:
The varsity girls track and field team traveled to Tully for the Friday Night Light's Invitational on May 14th. There were lots of whispers and hushed voices during the meet, most of which asked "who are those fast girls" or "where is the "T" from - I know Tully is not blue and gold". Those questions were asked many times as the Raiders won several events in convincing fashion against some of the best track schools in section 5 and section 3.
Wednesday, May 12th
The 7th grade
contingent of the Modified Track and Field team traveled to
Groton Wednesday to compete against Groton and Union Springs. It
was a dreary, cold day but the team performed very well.

Lindsay

at Dryden on Monday night. While no team scores were recored some fast
times were laid down on the track. Hilary Swartwood extended her list
