I would like to give a personal thanks to those who read the RaiderReport, those who contribute to it and the athletes that I have had the enjoyment of writing about. Over two years I have had many mornings writing articles and posting what Coaches contribute and have enjoyed my time both as an athlete and writing about my peers who will be missed.

Scholar Athlete Status
We are happy to announce that the Girls Varsity Track and Field team has achieved Scholar Athlete Team status. The following 25 female Track and Field student-athletes have maintained a 90+ average during their spring athletic competitive season: Megan Austen, Arlene Boruchowitz, Desiree Cochran, Sarah Danner, Shannon Glanton, Ali Grunder, Blythe Gurche, Dezra Hamilton, Marina Howarth, Katie McMillen, Sophia Melvin, Elly Moore, Shauna Murray, Maris Plymale, Maya Puleo, Nicole Rossi, Liz Seamon, Katlin Shippy, Maura Slocum, Emily Stranger, Makenzi Swartwood, Jordan Trudell, Abby VanSoest, Brianna VanSoest, Maddie White. Our top 12 average, which will be submitted to NY State is… 96.83!!
On top of their excellent academic standing, these girls also found time to participate in NYSMAA & Musical Theater Productions, serve as youth track coaches to our elementary students and countless other school activities. They also continued their athletic winning ways by repeating as IAC Large School North, Overall IAC Large School and Sectional IV Class “C” Team Championship. Several School Records fell during the season and Sarah Danner even found time to run a Marathon this past weekend. A dozen girls have qualified to compete at the Section IV State Qualifier meet on Thursday to see if they can “punch a ticket” to the NY State Championships.
We would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff that supported their endeavors on and off the field.

The doubles team of Kevin VanDelden / JT Swartz and Charlie Woodward and Alec Bartishevich both made it to the final rounds of the sectional tournament. Kevin VanDelden / JT Swartz lost in a tough two setter vs. Lansing and Charlie Woodward and Alec Bartishevich advanced over a home court Southern Cayuga team. Charlie and Alec advanced to the Section IV Class C/D East versus West Playoff.
The Class C/D East versus West Tennis Playoff is held at the Binghamton Tennis Center located next to the equestrian center and is a beautiful setting for the sectional playoffs. Charlie and Alec lost the first match to the eventual champions from Seton Central Catholic Schools. You've Heard This Before...
Girls track overwhelms Whitney Point and Marathon and Clinches the IAC Large School North Division Title!
The Girls Track and Field team beat Whitney Point 103-37 to Clinch the IAC Large School North Division Title. They also beat non division opponent 93-44.
Even without 12 Juniors who were taking an SAT prep class the Lady Raiders dominated both teams with stellar performances from many athletes. Many younger athletes had to “step up” with so many other girls being out! Kourtney Miller and Liz Seamon both set personal bests in the Pole Vault. Kourtney tied the school record in the pole vault at 9’. Maris Plymale, Nicole Rossi and Kayla Prochnow jumped their season best to sweep the top three spots in the High Jump and Kayla’s jump of 5’1” is one of the best in the section. Ali Grunder showed her dominance of the sprint events taking first in the 100, 200 and 400 meter runs. Emily Stranger emerged as another threat in the 400m run as she took 2nd overall and then anchored the 4x400 team! Welcome to the “big time” Emily! Sarah Danner keeps on rolling by her sweep of the distance events, taking first in the 1500 and 3000 (all after an 18 mile run on Sunday!!). Abby VanSoest took 2nd in the 1500 with a new PR. Desiree Cochran was on track to get a personal best and win the 400 hurdles when she fell over hurdle #7 but rebounded nicely to take 2nd! Danielle Peck won the 800m run easily and filled in on the 4x100 relay which bested the Whitney Point team. Sydney Hayward was the Raider’s top Thrower in the Shot and the Discus. Blythe Gurche was our top jumper in the Long and Triple.
Nice Job Ladies and congrats on the IAC Large School North Division Title!

Second Appearance
Boys Track has their second meet of the year
The boys had their second track meet Saturday. We had a lot of good performances overall but we had one young man that really stepped up and made people take notice. Reuben Young stepped up and ran a 49.43 in the 400 meter race. He then recovered and ran the 200 meter race with a time of 22.54. There weren’t many people from EFA, Southside, Vestal and Binghamton that were thinking that small town of Trumansburg was going to have a young man produce times like this. I was amazed seeing the athletes from other schools coming up to him and saying “much respect”.

The boys and girls will be traveling to Dryden tonight for the large school championship. So please wish them luck also.

Also with two hits for the Blue Raiders were freshmen Dylan Mosher and Mitchell Swartwood. After giving up 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning the Blue Raiders fought back and managed to plate two runs to even the score at 3 in the fifth. Start of the Season
The Blue Raiders opened their season with a loss to Lansing by the score of 9-3. Brian Sheridan had Trumansburg’s only hit with a 3rd inning double. The team had some difficulty adjusting to being outdoors after a very wet and cold preseason. They are hoping to wake up the bats and gloves soon as the IAC North Large division is a tough one. Next up is Dryden!

NOTE: Game at Dryden today, April 1st is cancelled. No April Fools joke.

Article by Jason Evans
The 2011 Brawl for the Ball tournament was a great success, attended by students of Lansing and Trumansburg High School!
Dodgeball is often touted as "violent and unfit for public schools". Is the sport only fit for violent students? Apparently not, as the teachers played an excellent round of Dodgeball themselves, and a dance was attended by Lansing and Trumansburg students afterwards. A great level of sportsmanship and athleticism was shown by both Trumansburg and Lansing students- not only did all teams display at least a modicum of sportsmanship, it was one of the most entertaining events of the school year.
In a great display of sportsmanship, as well as a suspenseful ending, Trumansburg players allowed their female player to throw the ball at Lansing's remaining female player. Lansing's teachers team won against Trumansburg, and Trumansburg won against Lansing's student team, ending with Trumansburg taking the golden ball home.

The Last Stand: Trumansburgs Jordan Trudell throws the winning ball.
A big thanks to Lansings own Yusong Liu, a member of Lansing's student council, and Trumansburgs own Rachel Pausch for the excellent pictures!

The Trumansburg Staff Slam was another great success this year, raising over $3,600 that will be split between the Elementary, Middle and High School. The Sports Booster raised an additional $1,500 with proceeds from food sales!

The first game with
the Elementary V. Middle School was
competitive and fast paced! Mr. Miller
would prove to be the most valuable
player, scoring points for the
Elementary school left and right. Mr.
Hodge proved the number on his back
meant something by scoring three after
three after three.
Against the High
School the Elementary team, the
"Eliminators" had lost a little
intensity, but the score remained even
closer, with numerous lead changes. Mrs.
Pepe was a force, being fouled numerous
times by as far as from the half court-
and she would make every free throw
count.
The High School and Middle School kept up a high tempo pace, and made for a third and final exciting game!
A big thanks to all who attended and participated in the Staff Slam!
Thanks to Julie Prisloe for providing the wonderful photographs. Julie Prisloe is a local photographer, and her website can be seen here! More Staff Slam photos can be seen here!
